THERE’S SOMETHING IN THE AIR

Prepare yourselves for a month of sensory bliss. No, Yorkshire Life – The Musical is not coming to a theatre near you (you’re welcome); instead, Harrogate International Festivals is hosting its annual month-long summer music festival, featuring a stunning interactive magical world on The Stray. The Luminarium from Architects of Air is a monumental display of walk-in sculptures and soaring domes, where Islamic architecture, Archimedean solids and Gothic cathedrals meld into a haze of light and colour, enticing visitors to happily lose themselves.

The artistic extravaganza has been on tour since 1992, taking in 43 countries along the way, with stop-offs at the Guggenheim in Spain and Sydney Opera House in Australia. On a more musical note, the festival also features two-time Mercury Prize nominee and MOBO winner Laura Mvula, the Halle Orchestra, Oddsocks theatre troupe (giving Shakespeare a twist at RHS Harlow Carr) and baroque violinist Rachel Podger.

‘Our theme for 2018 is “innovation”, so it’s exciting to have a truly ground-breaking artist like Laura Mvula,’ said music manager Charlotte Woods. ‘I think we’re all ready to embrace some sunshine and be reinvigorated by music and theatre with, perhaps, a little dancing along the way.’ The Luminarium will be on The Stray on July 12th-15th.
