IT’S almost the end of yet another long, hard year. And with the festive season in full swing, you’re more than likely to clink a glass (or two) to toast the start of a new year filled with new promises. 

But the festive season can also be quite stressful with its hectic financial demands. What better way to drown your sorrows than to raise your glass? 

But while drinking is generally an acceptable table relaxant, during the holidays, we tend to take it to the extreme: 

About half of the people arrested for crimes considered “family violence” in Cape Town, Durban and Joburg were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the alleged offence, according to the latest reports. 

Six out of 10 drivers who die in road accidents have dangerously high blood alcohol levels. The death rate on our roads rises steeply in the festive season.
