Power couple Shona and Connie Ferguson tell us there’s no behind-the-scenes drama at their production house, it’s just showbiz

NO BIG DEAL

FOR months they maintained their silence while nasty rumours swirled. Despite being accused of ill-treating their workers, poor payment, and providing unfair working conditions, Connie and Shona Ferguson kept quiet and carried on running Ferguson Films.

But their production house came under fire again recently when Dineo Langa ( formerly Moeketsi), who played Connie’s onscreen daughter in their flagship show The Queen, was apparently axed after she asked for a three-month break to film a movie.

Dineo joins a long list of actors who unexpectedly left the popular show, leaving fans wondering why the Fergusons keep bleeding talent.

Up until recently, Connie (49) and Shona (48) haven’t been drawn into the social-media storm but now the power couple are breaking their silence.

There’s nothing sinister in their staff turnover rate, they say.

“The misconception about Ferguson Films is we are abusive, bad payers. It was funny in the beginning until people actually started believing it,” Connie tells DRUM.

“It’s very sad because that couldn’t be further from the truth. We care deeply for our team and take a keen interest in their wellbeing.”

The couple are aware of the criticism they’re receiving but Connie says they often don’t feel the need to respond.

“Social media is a beast that feeds off negativity – the more you engage, the more you feed the monster. Sometimes it’s wise to just be still and let God [move],” she says.

“There’s a lot that we do that we don’t talk about because we don’t do it for the glory. The team knows what we do. And that’s all that matters.”
