ACTOR Dennis Quaid’s fairy-tale marriage to America’s Sweetheart Meg Ryan crumbled because his battered ego couldn’t cope with her rocketing movie success — and the final blow — her affair with Gladiator hunk Russell Crowe.

“He would have been hurt no matter who it was,” dishes a snitch. “But it didn’t help that Russell was the biggest star on the planet at that time. It was as if Meg was rubbing that in his face.

“Dennis was left with a broken heart and a seriously bruised ego.”

The 64-year-old Parent Trap hunk is freshly divorced after 14 years with third wife Kimberly, mom of his ten-year-old twins, Zoe and Thomas. He had a five-year first marriage to actress P.J. Soles.
