MOVE ALONG, THERE’S NOTHING TO SEE HERE… FORTUNATELY, SFX GETS AN EYEFUL ON SET FOR THE INVISIBLE MAN

See No Evil...

ELISABETH MOSS IS LOSING HER FREAKING MIND. It’s late August 2019 and SFX is in Sydney, Australia, for a set visit to The Invisible Man. The film comes courtesy of production company Blumhouse, with a screenplay by horror maestro Leigh Whannell (Saw), also directing.

A local soundstage has been transformed into a suburban home, complete with a massive kitchen – a brawl takes place here later – and numerous bedrooms. The breakdown for today’s sequence goes something like this: Cecilia Kass, portrayed by Moss, sits cross-legged on the floor of a room, staring intently at an empty armchair. Cecilia senses she is not alone when, suddenly, there’s a knock on the door.

“Hey, Cecilia, you in there?” her childhood friend James (Aldis Hodge) asks before entering.

“That door’s been locked all night,” Cecilia says, her voice cracking. “How is it that you’re able to just walk up and open it? Doesn’t that seem strange to you?”

“Yeah, it does,” he responds. After a brief moment, Cecilia continues.

“There’s someone sitting in that chair,” she says in a hushed tone. “See it? Look at it. It’s him. I know it is.”

“You want me to go check?” James offers, as his teenage daughter Sydney (Storm Reid) stands silently in the doorway. As James slowly approaches the chair, the tension mounts. Cecilia’s eyes open wide and then… Well, that nail-biting outcome constitutes a spoiler. However, either a paranoid Cecilia has gone off the deep end, or, as she suspects, a sinister unseen presence is tormenting her.
