There’s a very unusual feel to Call the Midwife’s feature-length Christmas episode, as the women of Nonnatus House are taken away from their familiar haunts in East London to help a struggling hospital in South Africa.

‘It is very different for viewers because they will be expecting snowy, cosy Nonnatus House, but this is so far away from that,’smiles Helen George, who plays midwife Trixie. ‘You get the best of both worlds because they have a lovely Christmas before they go, but then out there, they are really out of their comfort zones.’
