The cast of Quadrophenia mark the cult mods-and-rockers film’s 40th anniversary.

Forty years ago this month, first-time director Franc Roddam – who would go on to create TV shows Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and MasterChef – presented his eagerly anticipated film Quadrophenia to the world.

Inspired by The Who’s album of the same name, the film, set against the backdrop of 1960s London and Brighton, centres around angry young mod Jimmy as he takes drugs, falls in love and heads to the coast, where mods and rockers fight running battles on the beach.

Brought to life by a talented young cast, many of whom went on to become household names, Quadrophenia very quickly achieved cult status.
