As the daughter of acting legends Jim Carter and Imelda Staunton, Bessie Carter was surely destined to tread the boards herself. 

‘Acting was always going to happen,’ beams Bessie, 24, as she chats to TV Times. ‘It’s in my blood.’

Now Bessie is tackling her first big TV role as Evie Wilcox in lavish BBC1 period drama Howards End.

But as Evie’s father Henry (Matthew Macfadyen) becomes closer to kindly Margaret Schlegel (Hayley Atwell) this week, following the death of his wife Ruth (Julia Ormond), trouble is on the horizon.
