Choosing between your dream job and your family is never easy. But in Netflix’s new drama Away, astronaut Emma Green experiences that dilemma on an epic level as she’s torn between the needs of her husband and daughter and a pioneering space mission that means being apart from them for three years.

Hilary Swank, a Oscar winner for Boys Don’t Cry (2000) and Million Dollar Baby (2005), plays Emma, who has been chosen to lead an international crew on the first mission to Mars.

However, during the first stage of the journey, Emma’s response to an emergency on board leaves several of the crew – and Emma herself – doubting her credentials.

To make matters worse, while stationed on the moon, Emma learns that her NASA engineer husband Matt (The Good Wife’s Josh Charles) has been rushed to hospital, leaving her with the impossible decision of whether to abandon the mission to be with him and their 15-year-old daughter, Alexis (Talitha Bateman).
