Abi Webster was never destined for a quiet life, but not even die-hard Corrie fans could have predicted this.

Last week, the grieving mum – high on drugs to blot out the pain of her split from husband Kevin and the death of son Seb – was struck down in agony and left utterly shellshocked as she went on to give birth to a baby boy, the product of her one-night stand with Imran Habeeb.

It’s another dramatic chapter for the Weatherfield mechanic, who, after initially abandoning her son at the hospital, is now desperate to keep him – all while facing an impossible battle to stop the truth of his paternity being discovered by Imran’s fiancée, Toyah.

Here, star Sally Carman, 40, discusses her latest challenge and reveals her hopes that Abi can get a much-needed second shot at motherhood…

Abi self-destructed after Kevin found out about her one-night stand. Wouldn’t it have been better to keep a clear head and try to win him back?

It would 100% have been better! But the truth is, she’s not dealing with everyday problems here. These are life-changing devastations, and anyone would go under.

She’d been climbing back up on to her feet after losing Seb, and suddenly Kev was saying, ‘I want you out of the house,’ and she was left thinking, ‘What is the point?’ She didn’t know what else to do, so she did what she does know, which was to turn to drugs.

What went through her mind when she later went into labour?
