On a wooden platform high above the ground, a lucky TV Times is feeding willow branches to Chester Zoo’s 10 Rothschild’s giraffes.

Giraffe team manager Sarah Roffe has warned us that, even though it’s tempting, the herd don’t actually like being stroked, so we’re trying to restrain ourselves.

Despite their gentle appearance, these super-cute animals prove surprisingly forceful as they tug the branches out of our hands to strip off the tasty buds!

We’ve been invited on an exclusive trip around the zoo ahead of the fifth series of C4’s The Secret Life of the Zoo, which lifts the lid on the hidden lives of some of the 21,000 animals who are cared for at the 125-acre Cheshire site.
