THE DINOS ROAR IN ANI-SERIES JURASSIC WORLD: CAMP CRETACEOUS…

Right now is a good time to be a Jurassic fan, what with Colin Trevorrow hard at work shooting Jurassic World: Dominion, the sixth movie in the dino franchise begun by Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. Can’t wait? Well, thankfully, Netflix’s new CG animation series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous plugs a T-rex-sized hole, with eight episodes that’ll make you glad the next one is just a button-push away.

While there have been other aborted attempts at Jurassic ’toons, this is the first one to get greenlit – with Spielberg, producer Frank Marshall and Trevorrow all on board. “I wouldn’t have thought we were ready to do this five years ago,” says Trevorrow. “I’ve been very cautious about overworking the franchise or expanding too far.” But Trevorrow’s Jurassic World and J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom spawned a new generation of fervent dinosaur enthusiasts, he notes. “They want more than one feature film every three years.”

Initially the brainchild of Zack Stentz (Thor), the show dovetails with 2015’s Jurassic World, spiriting viewers back to Isla Nublar. Six lucky kids are invited to ‘Camp Cretaceous’, a dino-centric Adventureland inside the main theme park that has yet to open to the public. “It just seemed like a great place to start,” says showrunner and executive producer Scott Kreamer. “We’re doing what we can to weave, like [Hamlet spin-off play] Rosencrantz And Guildenstern, our kids through the events of that film.”
