MMA fighters do battle at the Phoenix Fighting Championship. What’s On meets a UAE-based heavyweight before his big fight
How were you introduced to MMA?
I used to fight in bare knuckle competitions in the UK. Then a friend suggested I enter MMA, believing I had potential. I then started training in jujitsu and kickboxing and had my first fight in 2006, which ended in a second round TKO victory.
What’s your training regimen?
I try to cover at least four hours a day. This consists of boxing/ kickboxing skills, submission wrestling, strength and conditioning, cardio and, of course, sparring.
You took a break from fighting. What made you start again?
