IT'S a party that's been 70 years in the making: the historic platinum jubilee of Britain's much-loved Queen Elizabeth. And what a celebration it's turning out to be.
Puddings and parties, Barbies and bunting, and a big Big Weekend when the nation will take to the streets to eat, drink and be merry.
Seven decades have passed since a 25-year-old princess ascended the throne and in those years the queen has proved to be an unfaltering pillar of the people, navigating countless crises and becoming a symbol of steadfastness, resilience, and dignity.
She's reigned through three pandemics and a global economic recession, guided 14 prime ministers, and shaken the hand of 13 US presidents.
She's had to maintain her composure through the messy divorces of three of her four children, Prince Andrew's sexual assault case, and Prince Harry turning his back on the family.
Then there was the death of her husband, Prince Philip, last year, which left a huge void in her life.
It's only fitting then that no effort or expense is being spared in celebrating her reign.
It all kicked off on 6 February, when Her Majesty became the first British monarch in history to celebrate a platinum jubilee.
Since then, festivities have been taking place in myriad ways. We take a look at what's going on.
THE PERFECT PUDDING
The Platinum Pudding Competition invited UK residents to create recipes inspired by the queen. Not only did the dessert have to be delicious and appealing, but it was also required to have a unique backstory and be easy enough for home bakers to rustle up.
There were 5 000 entries, but ultimately Jemma Melvin, a copywriter from Southport, won for her lemon-flavoured Swiss roll and amaretti trifle.
