There is no way to sugar-coat a debilitating hike through an uneven gravelled trail for someone as physically unfit as myself — my sporting competency usually limited to a breezy weekend walk with my toy poodle. If I could have had it my way, we would be spending the day by the beach, preferably horizontal. But there we were, gathered at the Blue Mountains, Australia since 9am.
Prior to this endeavour, we had a three-hour-long dinner the night before, with Rosalyn Lee and Sonia Chew — two intrepid travellers who were my hiking buddies for the trip. Lee, more affectionately known as Rozz, ended her 14-year stint as a radio DJ in 2018 to embark on a new journey where she sets out to tick off the countries she wants to explore from her bucket list. Today, the 40-year-old’s Instagram account (@ heyrozz) is littered with her unique travels spanning countries from the Middle East to the North Pole.
Lee met Chew in 2012 when the latter joined 987FM’s Radio Star search competition. What started out as a mentor-mentee relationship blossomed into camaraderie shortly after Chew won the competition. Chew is best known for the goofy voice behind her 987FM show, “The Shock Circuit”, alongside her partner Joakim Gomez. She also hosts an award-winning travel programme, “Travel SSBD”, which takes her on an exciting journey of adventure, where she discovers the less known charms of each city she visits — as evident on her Instagram (@soniachew)
