Louis Vuitton knows how to put on a show that will have people talking — before, during and even long after the event. This was certainly the case for its PreFall’23 presentation, which took place in Seoul in early May and showcased how creative director Nicolas Ghesquière was amplifying his future-forward direction for Louis Vuitton by integrating pop culture, heritage and creativity.
The show was held at the iconic Jamsugyo Bridge, which connects the districts of Gangnam and Gangbuk and overlooks the famed Han River.
Completed in 1976, it served as the perfect place for Ghesquière’s vision to come to life. The designer also invited Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk to design the set for the show, and the result was stunning, with streaks of amber light that resembled the movements of water blanketed over the bridge.
When it comes to a pre-fall collection, including a mix of summer separates that can easily transition to become fall staples is key. Ghesquière featured a slew of patterns like stripes, checks, geometric shapes and the brand’s emblematic monogram. Structure and motion are two concepts present in all of Louis Vuitton’s collections and here, they took the shape of flowy skirts and knit tops with wide shoulders, tailored blazers and straight-cut boxy dresses. Leather was also an essential part of this collection, appearing in the form of garments — mini skirts, jackets, pants — as well as details — shoulder panels, straps and corsets.
