Fierce, cool and edgy – that’s the Bella Hadid we know from the runway and red carpets, and the one we expected to meet in Kuala Lumpur. Because she’s always sporting her signature supermodel pout, many have the impression that Hadid is aloof and unfriendly. But from the moment she stepped into the TAG Heuer store that Monday afternoon, it was obvious there is a much softer side to the supermodel.

As an ambassador for the Swiss watchmaker, Hadid was in the Malaysian capital city for her first appearance at the brand’s boutique. All smiles, no airs; affable, earnest and also a little shy – the Hadid we met was a far cry from her on-camera persona. We sat down with her for an interview, where she opened up about overcoming her struggles, highlights of last year, and her goals for 2019.

Tell us about your experience as a TAG Heuer ambassador.

What I love about TAG Heuer is not just the brand itself but the experience that has come with it. I get to work with them on so many different things. I get to travel, experience and learn about the different sides to a watch. A lot of the time, with my job, you walk onto the set, you shoot, and then you leave. With TAG Heuer, it’s a bigger experience than that. It’s such a strong and iconic brand, with so many generations and amazing people behind it. I am so happy to be able to be part of it.
