Love First At Sight?
Marie Claire Australia|July 2017

When it comes to initial impressions, clothes don’t always maketh the man – or woman. marie claire met three couples who fell in love despite what they were wearing.

Love First At Sight?

“WE MET IN KINDY”

Alyce, 31, who works in the disability industry, and Paul, 31, who installs air conditioners, met on their first day of kindergarten. The childhood sweethearts are now married with a baby boy.

When she was four, Alyce was the best in her kindergarten class at drawing raindrops. “I remember the teacher called me up to the front of the classroom to make an example of my raindrops,” recalls Alyce.

The artistic display didn’t go unnoticed by her classmate Paul. “I knew I had to marry her from that moment,” he jokes.

In truth, it would be another 11 years before Paul and Alyce hit it off at a high school party. From then, they would meet in a park after school and on the weekend. “Kicking a soccer ball in that park was probably our first date,” says Alyce. They dated for three years before putting things on hold while Alyce went travelling overseas.

“I had intentions to get back with her the whole time she was overseas. I always knew she was the one,” says Paul.

The couple married in an intimate ceremony in 2014. “I know it’s a cliché, but it really was the best day of my life,” Paul says. A day only surpassed by the moment they became parents to baby Jensen this year.

Today, the couple’s kindergarten class photo takes pride of place at the start of their family album. “It’s funny to look at photos of us when we’re little and to think that will be Jensen in five years,” says Alyce. “We could be meeting our future daughter-in-law on the first day of school.”
