With Sandro’s Muppets collaboration soon to hit stores, its founder sits down with our favourite amphibian to discuss froggy dressing and fashion faux pas
Kermit the Frog has often been put in the shade by his colleague Miss Piggy – physically, metaphorically, you name it. But he’s finally enjoying a well-deserved moment in the fashion spotlight, thanks to his collaboration with French label Sandro. Creative director Evelyne Chétrite could be said to sum up all that is good and chic in the fashion world – her Paris-based label is responsible for making insouciant rock ’n’ roll French style a reality for those of us who don’t live within a croissant’s throw of the Eiffel Tower. Merci, Evelyne…
A lifelong Kermit fan, she finally persuaded him to work with her on a capsule collection hitting stores this month. We meet the new fashion collab duo to find out more…
Evelyne: Kermit, I’ve loved you since your early years. What do you think of fashion designers?
Kermit: Thank you, and I’m a big fan of yours, too. Fashion designers are true artists whose work takes great inspiration, creativity and, if you’re designing for Miss Piggy, extreme patience.
EC: I can only imagine. So first, I want to ask, why don’t you wear any clothes?
KTF: It’s a frog thing. Swamp water is not great for most fabrics. Even drip-dry tends to end up drip-damp when you spend your day knee-deep in pond scum, forgive the imagery.
EC: What is it that defines a stylish frog these days?
KTF: Well, I’m fond of collars. What shoes and jewellery are to some folks, collars are to me. I have dozens of them. You probably can’t tell, because they all look exactly alike.
EC: You’ve got a kind of natural ruff. Are you an accessories fan?
