If you discovered that you were perfectly imperfect? Would you love yourself?
I am a very insecure person and it takes guts to admit that. An amazing thing about it is when I overcome things I feel growth and I feel alive. One of my biggest insecurities has been my body - one day I wake up and I love it, the next day I don’t. Seven months ago, in this confusing state, I felt a strong urge to change my body. I wanted it to be ideal as per societal demands. I know you are already screaming cliché, but trust me, we all seek to fulfill society demands, the difference is that we focus on different struggles, depending on our values, at the time.
The ideal body, according to society, is the hour glass shape; curves that are accompanied by a tiny waist. Sometimes sitting in the same room with a person with such a shape, I would notice the admiring looks she got and I would ask myself, 'why is that not me?' I chose to hurt myself, but not once did I blame the society for my envy. I looked at my little pot belly and believed that I was a shame to society.
