Mwalimu Rachel is a woman who has all her ducks in a row. The 32-year-old’s broadcasting career entered a new phase early this year when she left HomeBoyz Radio and joined the newly launched urban radio NRG Radio as the head presenter and host of the afternoon segment, Transit, alongside controversial musician, Timmy T-dat.

‘This is where I get to really use my 10 years’ experience in the radio industry and help bring in the new crop of presenters. Its something that I love to do. I’m in a good space. I will also get to explore other areas in broadcasting and I can’t wait to challenge myself more!’ Read her statement on Instagram.

Her fans and listeners have been dying to know why she made the big move and her response was simple, ‘you have to challenge your mind to keep growing, and this move came at an opportune moment in my life, after a decade at HBR,’ she explains.

We met on a quiet morning for tea in Westlands, near the NGR studio where she was scheduled to work later in the day. She had on a baseball hat with the radio station’s logo, a clear indicator of her allegiance.

‘To be honest, I haven’t slept much. We’re busy tying lose ends for Blaze Kisumu tour this week. My foundation, Mwalimu Rachel Experience Media Limited (MRX), will also host a number of young people next month for a pep-talk on business,’ Mwalimu Rachel reveals.

Rachel recalls that from an early age, she yearned to be a television presenter. ‘I always imitated TV presenters and hoped that one day, I would be just like them,’ she says.
