“The finest trotting reel ever made.
FAMOUS Redditch tackle giants, S. Allcock & Company, offered the very best centrepin reels for over six decades. The ’pins that they sold were made by prestigious reel makers JW Young and Sons who created the first, true, free-spinning centrepin, based on an initial design by keen angler Henry Coxon.
In 1965, Allcock launched their new Match Aerial reel, which at 90 shillings was around the same price as a decent fixed-spool reel such as the Youngs Ambidex.
As with their past centrepins, the new Match Aerial was an exceptional, well-engineered reel, and most definitely looked the business. It was endorsed by the leading match angler of the day, Coventry man Billy Lane, who regarded it as “The finest trotting reel ever made”. High praise indeed, but just ask any angler who has fished with one of these reels and they’ll tell you they’re pretty much unbeatable!

Making Short Work Of Specimen Chub
It takes angling guide Kenny Parsons a few hours to drive from his home, near Bath, to his favourite Wessex rivers, but it doesn’t seem to bother him, as he just loves to catch big chub on feeder and fl oat tactics, his personal best standing at 7 lb 12 oz. One of his favourite methods for this cunning species is a maggot feeder with a short hook link.
