Food & Health|August - September 2016

God could not be present everywhere which is why he created mothers. Angles could not be there everywhere which is why we have doctors. Doctors race against time, beat the odds, work the odd hours and they continue to put a smile on many people’s face.Regardless of their specialization, each doctor is counted as a hero. They are blessed with a magical set of hands and for the people they will continue to be angles sent by God.

Medical Heroes with the Hands of God !!

Yesteryears of medicine

The history of medicine is arguably as old as the history of mankind. Some of them argue that, the two are inseparable. An inside out, at the history of medicine, several sources point out that medicine was in fact, practised by trained professionals till date. However, it was the Greeks who take the credit of introducing the concepts of diagnosis in medicine. Even today, the Hippocratic Oath is still taken. Although, this oath has undergone several changes, doctors of the contemporary era continue to take this oath. The Hippocratic Oath is believed to be originally written in Greece midst of the 5th century BCE.

During the medieval era, The Practice of Surgery came into being. Several universities taught students the art of performing surgery. It is believed that the systematic training of surgeons began in the year 1220, in Italy. Furthermore, the invention of the microscope gave people a broader understanding of the human anatomy that paved way to discover the gem theory of diseases. In the 19th century, cure for several infectious diseases was discovered. Around this time, significantly, the discipline of trauma treatment and surgery developed.

During the 20th century, cities began to develop on one hand, and on the other, new methods of treatments were also discovered. It was around this time, that several medicine facilities; x-ray for instance and antibiotics were discovered. This was regarded as the modern era for medicine for all the advancements and developments the field of medicine. Experts justify that it is valid to dedicate this 20th century as the contemporary era of medicine. However, in the 21st century the field of medicine created history. From this era onwards, research in medicine has become priority.
