Tell us more about chiropractic. What is it?

ACM: Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses primarily on the brain-body connection, especially the relationship between our spine and nervous system. Basically, for our brain to understand what is going on and to be able to respond appropriately and function optimally, there must not be any interference to the information travelling all around our body via our nervous system. Our nervous system (particularly the spinal cord and spinal nerves) is protected by our spine. Hence, any areas of dysfunction in the spinal joints may create interruption to the normal communication between our nervous system and body. These imbalances prevent proper flow of information along the nerves and cause our brain to be unable to respond appropriately.

Although spinal manipulation dates back to Hippocrates and the ancient Greek physicians, the discovery of chiropractic is attributed to Daniel David Palmer (D.D. Palmer) in 1895. The first school for the training of chiropractors commenced in the USA in Davenport, Iowa in 1897. The term ‘chiropractic’, derived from Greek roots to mean ‘done by hand’, originated with Palmer and was coined by a patient, the Reverend Samuel H. Weed. Hence, there is an emphasis on manual techniques, including joint adjustment and/or manipulation with a particular focus on joint misalignment.

How many chiropractors are there in Malaysia?

ACM: Currently, there are about 180 qualified chiropractors in Malaysia and about 90 percent are registered members of the Association of Chiropractic Malaysia (ACM).

What is the average fee for chiropractors in Malaysia? ACM:

Chiropractors charge on average between RM80 and RM200 per session depending on the location as well as what is included in the treatment.
