Whether you favour soft, billowing curtains or crisp, tailored blinds, the right window treatment can be the perfect finishing touch to a room. “Window treatments don’t just help control light and privacy, they can transform the look of a space and help you set a mood,” says Amelia Taylor, head of product and communications at Wynstan.
Morgan Ferry, director at window furnishings firm Simple Studio concurs: “They can be used to reinforce your decorative style – in particular, the type, colour and texture of the textiles you choose. For example, floaty white linen sheers can convey a coastal vibe, while a heavy, draped linen in a neutral tone evokes a minimalist vibe, while velvet sets a luxurious, glamorous tone.”
You’ll find no shortage of styles on offer. Add softness to a room or frame a view with curtains; opt for blinds in a highperformance fabric to enhance privacy, insulation or block out the light; choose versatile venetians; or go for a Hamptons look with plantation shutters in natural timber or a water-resistant material such as PVC. Alternatively, if you want the gentle appearance of curtains and the performance properties of blinds, opt for a layered treatment that gives you the best of both worlds.
