Texas orthodontist helps military families by turning combat-ready footwear into more than a fashion statement.

Men in tuxedos and women in gowns fill the room. It looks like a typical fundraising event—until you glance down and see bulky brown combat boots, not sparkly heels, peeking below the hems.

“The boots are a symbol of what we do,” says Sherri Reuland, one of the co-founders of the Boot Campaign, a nonprofit that supports military members and their families. “We wanted to find a way to give the average civilian American a wake-up call. Take a moment out of your busy day and put yourself in their boots.”
