What The interiors and garden of an extended converted barn
Interior design Sarah Barclay, creative director, Barclay Interiors Limited
Creative director Sarah Barclay has history with the owners, having worked on a number of properties for them, including a home in London and a chalet in the Alps. “They’re all different, which suits me – we don’t have an in-house style at Barclay Interiors. Rather, our work reflects the way our clients live and use their homes.”
The brief she was given at this converted barn centred around the recently completed glass extension: the owners wanted it to feel glamorous yet relaxed, and connected to the garden. Its three designated areas – kitchen, family room and garden room – were to function harmoniously together, comfortably accommodating the couple and their family as well as lots of company once that becomes possible again. “Our clients are great socialisers and love to entertain on a large scale – their parties are legendary.”

MEET THE MAKER RACHEL MACLELLAN
You might think the process is purely creative, but designing knitted textiles requires a deep understanding of geometry and pattern calculations. It is intricate and often mathematical. I have learned that knitting demands a constant balance between artistry and engineering. Creating a new textile involves not only selecting colours and yarns but also considering the tensile strength, elasticity and drape of the material. That way, I ensure the final product is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. To me, this blend of creativity and technical precision is a fascinating aspect of knitted textile design.
