Flat glass is commonly used in residential and commercial operations, usually in the form of windows, doors, facades, mirrors, appliances, furniture, partitions and greenhouses. New market information projects that the global flat glass market is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 6 per cent from 2017-2021 [Technavio, 2017]. According to Vikram Khanna, COO, Consumer Glass; COO, Architectural Institutional Business; CMO, CIO, Asahi India Glass Ltd. (AIS), “Glass has become an integral part of modern-day architecture because it gives designers the choice of finish and helps them realize their design aspirations.”

The vast range of technological improvements in this field has contributed to making glass a ubiquitous material for the real estate sector. Gaurav Singhal, Director, JB Glass, Noida, explains, “With the incorporation of advanced technologies, the material not only gives designers greater flexibility and precision but also the liberty to conceive more in relation to glass.” Christof Babinsky, Managing Director, ASB Systembau Horst Babinsky GmbH, Stein a. d. Traun, Germany, says “LED technology has progressed drastically over the recent years and has become affordable enough to be incorporated in large-field applications like the ASB GlassFloor. The same applies to the different treatment options of glass. In combination, these allow for a product that is revolutionary enough to become a major game changer, as well as offering a better user experience in terms of individual marking lines being available at the touch of a button and the athletes’ health, which is paramount.”
