Craft in America, the Peabody Award-winning PBS television series, showcases the creative spirit of America’s handmade craft artists.
The opening episode of its 10th season explores the diverse heritage, traditions, and innovations in California, including architecture and furniture designed by Charles and Henry Greene.
Developing their own interpretation of the early 20th Century Arts & Crafts Movement, the Greene brothers explored how to bring good design to the daily lives of people and assembled makers who were able to execute at the level they were designing. Their woodworkers were the brothers John and Peter Hall, and their spirit continues today through the talents of father and son James and Jack Ipekjian of Pasadena Woodworks, who make exact replicas for Greene-designed homes and others. Since 1994, the Ipekjians have been responsible for the complete restoration of the Blacker House in Pasadena, CA, which required both restoration to architectural and decorative elements.
This essay draws upon the Craft in America: California episode, addressing the Ipekjians’ experience replicating Greene & Greene-designed furniture. The full episode is available for viewing at: www.pbs.org/video/californiaoknuhm/. Additional information on the Craft in America series is available at: www.craftinamerica.org/, while the work of the Ipekjians can be seen at their website: www. pasadenawoodworks.com/.

I'd like to share a recent email from Sandra Walkin of Louisiana, who took my Gilding & Chemical & Patination class and a 2-day private class in 2015:
