'When we first moved here, the bathroom was the most modern room in the house,' admits Sarah Amory, but it was really dull. It wasn't a room we wanted to spend time in.' Initially, Sarah planned a few quick fixes, but the walls were tiled, so she couldn't even give them a lick of paint. 'And, after discovering cheap plywood under the lino, I realised there wasn't much I could do with it.'
However, the bathroom was way down on the priority list. We didn't want to use time and money here when other rooms weren't liveable, so decided to wait. I just never thought it would take six years!'
THE PROJECT
After they finished renovating the downstairs rooms, the couple could finally tackle the bathroom. As she'd been waiting so long to get started on it, Sarah even had a key item ready to go. We already had the freestanding bath,' she says. “I'd bought it four years previously after I found it on eBay for only £200. I never expected to wait so long for it to be installed, so it just lived in the shed, collecting dust.
The room was quite tricky to design as Sarah also wanted to fit in a separate shower. A new water tank was already fitted into the corner of the room, so the couple had to think carefully about the new layout.
