WHEN WALTER CHIAPPONI was appointed as creative director at Tod’s in 2019, he immediately set out to breathe a new life into the Italian casa. “Walter Chiapponi is a talented Italian creative who knows and is able to combine Tod’s Italian lifestyle with a touch of modernity, without ever losing sight of the high quality and craftsmanship that represents the brand’s DNA,” said Tod’s president Diego Della Valle.
The intention was to bring an evolution rather than revolution to the Italian brand, and Chiapponi made sure he does so gradually without stripping away the house’s codes. “I want people to be very confident and to like the changes. They should be slow but recognisable,” said Chiapponi.
