Throughout this season, the Celtic View will be getting to know some of the players coming through the Celtic Academy, and who are determined to try and progress all the way to the first-team

DANIEL Church’s early season highlight was signing a new deal with Celtic, which means he will remain at the club until at least June 2021.

Given that he was in the last year of his previous contract, it was a relief for the 18-year-old defender to sort his future out.

And having done so, he’s aiming to cement a regular place in Tommy McIntyre’s Reserve side over the course of the current campaign.

Speaking to the Celtic View, Church said: “The Reserve League has given more opportunity for first-team players to come down and play.

“If you play with the first-team players, then you can take bits from their game, see how they live their life and it gives you an added boost. Every time they come down their attitude has been brilliant and they’ve been getting on with all the boys, gelling together.

“You’re also playing against first-team players as the reserve set-up is a bit above the development one, so if you’re playing against men every week, it’s setting you up for the first-team level.

“I got off to a good start in the league but then I missed out on a few games just before the international break where Calvin Miller was playing before he went out on loan.

“Now that Calvin’s out on loan it’s gave me an opportunity to get back into the team, make starts and keep progressing.”

WHERE DO YOU HAIL FROM?

Bonnybridge. I’m from Cumbernauld but I live in Bonnybridge. All my family are from Cumbernauld, though. It’s my hometown.
