Goalkeeper Ryan Mullen is enjoying the experience of European football, having recently signed a new contract with his Bhoyhood heroes

NO goalkeeper enjoys conceding six goals in a game but Ryan Mullen was certainly not downhearted following Celtic Under-19s’ UEFA Youth League defeat against Bayern Munich last week in Germany. The young Hoops may have lost 6-2 to the hosts but that scoreline failed to tell the story of the contest at the FC Bayern Campus.

Tommy McIntyre’s team dominated large swathes of the match and they were extremely unfortunate to be trailing 3-0 at the interval. In the second half, they rallied superbly and reduced arrears thanks to goals from the outstanding Mikey Johnston and Ewan Henderson.

However, the clinical home side struck three late counters to deny the Bhoys an incredible comeback and leave them empty-handed at the final whistle.

And Mullen told the View that the team would learn the lessons of the loss and take the many positives of the performance into next week’s return meeting with Bayern at Cappielow.

“It’s a great experience for us,” he said. “We are here to play Champions League football and we will use this experience. We will go back to the league this week and once we come back into the Champions League, we will have learned from this and we will build on it, as we have done that in every game we have played in the competition. The Bayern game was definitely a learning experience and we will go again.”
