Midfielder Kerr McInroy has his sights set on moving up the grades

THE move up to the Development Squad can be a big step for any young player but Kerr McInroy has taken it in his stride since graduating from the Under-17s. With a busy second half of the season ahead, the young midfielder is determined to build on the strong start he has had to the season and is aiming to forge a path into the first team.

The 17-year-old joined Tommy McIntyre’s squad in the summer and has been a mainstay in central-midfield throughout the first half of the season. Progression isn’t new to McInroy. He has been at Celtic for over four years now and has shown his ability for both club and country at various levels.

“I’ve been here for four-and-a-half years now,” he told the Celtic View. “I came from a boys’ club in Fife called Blue Brazil. When I was playing with them I found out Celtic were interested in me.

Some scouts came to watch me in a few games and when I was offered the chance to join Celtic I jumped at it.

“This is my first season in the Development Squad. I was in the under-17s last season, although I played a few Development games. The majority of the current squad moved up together from the 17s so I’ve already played alongside a lot of the boys, which makes a big difference to how we perform as a team.

“It’s been really good so far, I’ve loved every minute of it. The coaches have been great with me and the facilities we have are brilliant so I couldn’t ask for a better environment to help me develop.
