Silver Streak

James Forrest is having the season of his life in his continuing trophy trail

Silver Streak

JAMES Forrest has been at Celtic for the vast majority of his life and, at 26-years old, is in his best form while closing in on winning a seventh successive league title.

Another piece of silverware would see his name alongside the likes of Jimmy McGrory, Tommy Gemmell and Tommy Burns in the record books and, while he admits he never imagined such a feat, he had no intentions of stopping there.

The Hoops winger has been a Celt since the age of nine, having worked his way through the ranks and into the first team. He has lifted no fewer than 12 major trophies at senior level. That in itself is an impressive achievement and puts him on par with Celtic greats such as John Clark, Stevie Chalmers and Roy Aitken.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are just three points away from winning the league, which would stretch Celtic’s domestic title winning streak to seven-in-a-row. One more trophy would make Forrest the 16th most decorated player in the club’s history alongside McGrory, Gemmell and Burns.

“You can never imagine your name been up there with greats like that,” admitted Forrest. “I don’t think it really sinks in while you’re in the middle of it.

“I’m still playing but maybe once I stop I’ll be able to properly sit down and dwell on it all. When you’re playing all you’re thinking about is what you need to do to make sure you can keep winning.

“To be mentioned in the same breath as those players is unbelievable, though, as I never thought that would happen.

“I just want to keep going and see how many games and trophies I can win for Celtic. That doesn’t mean I’m looking too far ahead, though. I’m just concentrating on the next game.
