Paul McGrotty realised you will never run alone when he ran the London Marathon.

We've Won The League Again, Fly The Flag

CELTIC achieved six-in-row this season – but Hoops supporter Paul McGrotty recently completed 26 miles in a row whilst flying the flag!

The 52-year-old from Newton Mearns ran the London Marathon in April, a fantastic feat in itself, but throughout the entirety of the race he also held aloft a Celtic champions flag.

With millions watching on TV and hundreds of thousands lining the streets, Paul told the View it was too good an opportunity not to hail Brendan Rodgers’ record-breaking Bhoys.

“I can’t pinpoint the inspiration behind it and I would be telling you a lie if it was one particular thing - it was just the pride of being a Celtic fan,” he said. “You have to let it be known, and you don’t get the opportunity that often when millions are watching worldwide and a couple of hundred thousand people are watching at the side of the road, so you have to grasp it!”

“My plan was start the race with the flag on the pole and then, after about 100 yards, to tie the flag round my wrist. But it was dead easy to run with the stick so I ran the whole 26.2 miles with the flag on the pole.

“It had champions written across it and the Celtic crest on it but not a lot of people would have seen the crest. The crowd were incredible and they were shouting ‘C’mon the champions’, when they saw the flag. One person shouted Rangers at me but a lot of Celtic people along the way were shouting, ’C’mon the Bhoys’, ‘C’mon the Hoops’ and ‘Hail Hail’.

“Around the 21-mile mark someone did actually shout my name out. I tried to turn around as I was running by but I couldn’t see who it was.”
