Self-love is often misinterpreted on social media (holla at all the fitness gurus living their best lives!), but what’s important to understand is that it helps us take better care of our loved ones. The more you appreciate yourself, the more love you have to give. After that, qualities like kindness and forgiveness will come easily to you. So, how do you even go about this process of self-love? Let’s start on the road to discovery.
IT’S ALL IN YOUR HEAD
It all starts with the way you think about yourself and it’s not possible to do this overnight; it’s a slow process. Instead, try something called the Law of Attraction, which reasons that what we believe in is what we attract. You basically dispel negative thinking and encourage positive reflection.
BODY POSITIVISM
Tapping into body positivism among Instagram pictures of sculpted bodies and curated food posts can be quite daunting. Start accepting yourself for who you are, irrespective of any acne you may have or how short you think your limbs are. It is through acceptance of our imperfections will we find love. Having said that, if you want to hit the gym and clean your diet up then kudos to you. But, as you travel on your fitness journey, learn to love your body right now, not the body you will get once you reach your goal.
SOLO TRAVEL IS THE WAY TO GO
Spending time with yourself is possibly one of the best ways to enjoy your own company. Consider waking up at 4 AM and taking the 6 AM train to the hills on your own. There, you could head to the Kandy lake and enjoy a bag of achcharu, after which, go to the Kandy City Centre and hop on the rollercoaster with a bunch of screaming strangers. Let me tell you, it is quite the experience!
