Visakhapatnam Goa of the East

Valentine’s Day, i.e. February 14, in 2019 will always hold special memories in the lives of a few members of our Rotary Club. As many as 39 members, in the age group of 4-80, made a beeline early morning to catch a flight to Visakhapatnam, popularly known as Vizag, on a memorable family outing programme, of which as many as 60% of the group were senior citizens. I was one of them. lord Narasimha of Simhachalam Mandir near Vizag ensured that I paid proper obeisance to him before I entered the city. As I was climbing the steps in front of the arrival hall, I tripped and fell, face down, in a typical prostrating posture. Fortunately, I got up without any collateral damage to my body much to the relief of the onlookers.

A luxury bus waiting at the airport took the motley group to Hotel Palm Beach located on the beautiful Beach Road. As the group had to wait for a couple of hours to check-in, the entire group was moved to a meeting hall where a banner welcomed the members to the Valentine’s Day celebration. Plenty of marigold garlands were placed on a table in the centre. The president of the group then invited members with their spouses to come to the centre-stage and garland each other and say few words. Once the list of legitimately married couples got exhausted, the president decided to pair the rest of the members who had come without their spouses to garland each other – a lady member garlanding another lady member and a male garlanding another male member, leading to a lot of mirth and fun.
