Montblanc knows that, much like its brand ambassador, some things are impervious to time – like the classic motor racing era, that’s inspired its TimeWalker collection.
Showman and X-Man extraordinaire Hugh Jackman is easily one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. As his legendary run as amnesiac mut ant Wolverine comes to an end with Logan, we find out what’s on the mind (and wrist) of the affable actor and Montblanc brand ambassador.
Are you a punctual guy, or the sort who gets to work late every now and then?
Punctual. My father brought up five kids on his own, so we were very much on time for everything. If you missed that car ride to the train station for school in the morning, you were walking. I also had a great acting teacher who kept you locked out for the entire day if you were even a minute late. Because in theatre, the curtain goes up at 8, and no one cares if you’re stuck in traffic or if you were in a car accident – you’re fired and your understudy fills in.
Is that how you developed a passion for watches?
I’ve always loved watches, but I wasn’t always able to afford them. It’s one of the great perks of where I’m at now. I don’t have hundreds. I just pick and keep what I love.
Any favourites?
I’m quite a traditionalist in a lot of ways. I believe in innovation, but also that we should hold on to elements that have worked in the past. I like how Montblanc does that with the TimeWalker collection.
You’re a proper cricket nut. What do you think about T20?
