When it received its first guests in February, The Mansion House in Alibaug, a 25-room exclusive use property, proved to be just as unexpected as the estate surrounding it. It can best be described as low-slung, grass-roofed and sharply minimalist. White muslin curtains blow around four-poster beds, and white sofas face out to garden views. There’s a stillness that’s refreshing, and a silence that’s beautiful. It is understated and overstated at the same time, and successfully so.
