What foods should I incorporate into my diet to fight off my depression?
It’s important to realize that food alone can’t cure depression, but yes, it plays a huge role in increasing or decreasing symptoms. For brevity, I’m going to simply answer the question asked above, but I urge you to also remember that besides just including certain foods, you have to also see what else you are having and then see how your body responds to all of these foods combined. It also goes without saying that the quantity and the time you consume the food matters too.
Having said that, I think there isn’t any disease in the world that doesn’t improve without leafy greens. But beyond the basics, do explore fermented foods such as kimchi and kefir. Studies show that probiotics may be helping in fighting depression and anxiety. Anything that influxes the body with healthy bacteria helps to soothe gut inflammation, and gut health and brain health go hand in hand.
Beyond that, dark chocolate (thanks to cocoa beans containing nutrientrich flavonoids) and orange vegetables (the orange carotenoids) like sweet potatoes, squash and carrots can also aid in warding off depression.
