Orange Is the New Red

Tigers have always been an object of fear and awe, revered and reviled, a symbol of strength and ferocity, but how do we keep its significance once they are gone-forever?

Pamela Victor
Orange Is the New Red

It’s not every day that you get to trudge through tracks that were once ruled by the majestic malayan Tiger. That’s particularly what i did it twice, in 24 hours. Thanks to the people behind The Body Shop and The malaysian conservation alliance for Tigers (MYCAT), i was exposed to the cruel activities that are currently threatening our very own national mascots, the malayan tigers. They are being illegally hunted for their skin, bones, and even sexual organs for use in medicine and sold at exotic meat restaurants. Tiger cubs are also being smuggled out alive to be sold as pets.

Starting off the journey from Kuala lumpur to the Sungai yu Tiger corridor, ash, our guide and citizen conservation Specialist from MYCAT, affirmed that the number of tigers in malaysia are going through a rapid decline, with only 300 (or less) left in our jungles. i wasn’t too sure how to feel at that point – did i feel upset? yes. Was i even more motivated to learn more about it and do my part through this caT walk? most definitely! along with The Body Shop’s campaign that has championed over 40 years of anti-animal testing, environment conservation and other causes and recently their new enrich Not exploit campaign, they have teamed up with MYCAT (with funding from The Body Shop's Kick the Bag campaign proceeds), through its citizen action for Tigers (caT) programmes to save and protect our nation’s critically endangered animals together with our very own malaysian animal activists – Thanuja ananthan, rina omar and aishah Sinclair to aid in creating more awareness to the public.
