Ever since the Duchess of Sussex began building a new life in the UK, the Beckham family have been among her most loyal and supportive friends.

But New Idea has learnt that despite now counting Victoria as one of her closest confidantes, it was David who first caught Meghan’s attention.

“Not many people realise this, but Meghan had her eye on David Beckham long before Harry came into the picture,” a source close to the palace reveals exclusively.

In fact, the former actress apparently had a crush on the famous footballer!

In 2013, Meghan travelled to the UK with a view to building a career there and perhaps landing a role on the popular reality TV show, Made in Chelsea. According to local TV presenter and former friend Lizzie Cunday, Meghan – recently divorced from first husband Trevor Engelson – was also hoping to find a Brit boyfriend.

“She told me she wanted to be on an English reality TV show and that she wanted an English boyfriend,” Lizzie said, adding that the future royal told her Hollywood was a “really brutal place” and that she felt at home in London.
