Craft an interior that’s truly your own with a cohesive scheme accentuated with an eclectic mix of decorative pieces—Tan Sze Ling of topic design studio shows us how to achieve this artful unity.
To make your abode feel truly like a sanctuary, one must design a decor scheme that captures your personal style. That’s an approach that Tan Sze Ling, founder of Topic Design Studio, takes for every project she works on. “Every project by Topic Design Studio is the realisation of the owner’s personal style—we’ve designed everything from a New York-inspired apartment to a modern penthouse with Chinese-style furnishings,” shares Tan. She calls this approach “eclectic styling”, which pairs an inspired mix of decorative details together in a way that still fits cohesively within your overall decor scheme.
“The philosophy behind eclectic styling is to combine elements or styles—from different time periods and origins—within a project in an edited way,” she explains. While it might sound daunting to mix and match contrasting pieces, Tan assures us that there are easy ways to tie these disparate details together. Here, she shares the ways to achieve this unique concept:
