FOR THE FREQUENT traveller, the executive with interests in a foreign market, or anyone who routinely needs to know the time in another city, the GMT complication is essential. With just a glance, one is able to tell the time in a second time zone conveniently, thus making this complication arguably one of the most useful today. The GMT complication, however, has a major limitation—by design, most iterations only track time zones that are offset from the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, the successor to Greenwich Mean Time) in one-hour intervals. Time zones with half-hour and quarter-hour differences exist though. New Delhi, for instance, is offset by +5:30, while Nepal is offset by +5:45.
