Into The Gloss

Hair glosses are not a new invention. But whether done at home or as a refresher in-salon, they have become an integral part of maintaining the healthy, shiny hair colour that is desired by almost everyone.

DYEING FOR A CHANGE

You’ve had your hair dyed that perfect shade to match your skin tone. But how do you keep that gorgeous colour from fading too quickly? From the perfected sheen of rich girl hair to the experimental rainbow of whatever the shade du jour is, many hanker after the impossibly luminous colour and perfect styling they see on Instagram.

Perhaps one of the more depressing things you can experience after a particularly pricey salon visit, is the horror of seeing tinges of your new colour swirling down the bathroom drain hole with each wash. (We’re pretty sure that was the real reason Janet Leigh was screaming in the infamous shower scene in Psycho.)

Many people may not realise what it takes to maintain their freshly dyed locks. They expect their dye job (usually done every six to eight weeks in a salon) to last, without the need for any maintenance or follow-up.

This is where hair glosses and toners come in to play. Chester Wong, the creative director of Hair Philosophy, a chic, loftinspired salon in Tyrwhitt Road and a colour specialist in his own right, says, “A gloss or toner can also be categorised as a demi-, semi-permanent or temporary dye. This category of dyes is more likened to a superficial deposit and will fade over a number of washes, depending on the product and the quality of the hair.”
