RITIKA BAJAJ GIVES THE IDEA OF DEATH A NEW SPIN, AND SHOWS US HOW IT CAN BE USED AS A TOOL TO POSITIVELY IMPACT THE COURSE OF OUR LIVES!
The month of July was one of many deaths, some very tragic unexpected ones. A friend lost a family member, a family member lost a friend, and then a friend lost a friend. To top it all, the country was shaken with the news of the death of one of its brightest entrepreneurs, VG Siddhartha of Cafe Coffee Day who succumbed to various internal and external pressures and decided to take his life.
When you hear of so many deaths around you, the meaninglessness of life becomes starker.
The inevitability of death hits, as do several questions like — Why are we alive, to begin with, and what are we really working towards? At such times, you can either let the idea of death demotivate you, or you can let it lift you.
Life is indeed short, but what we make of it, is totally in our hands.
And, very often, when you begin to question the purpose of life, you perhaps find some answers… sometimes, even a new purpose! The late Steve Jobs successfully used the tool of thinking about death every day to find a new life purpose…
In fact, he used it as a gauge to see if he was on the right path. If he didn’t feel good about what he was doing ‘for too many days in a row’, he knew he had to change course, and do something new.
In one of his videos, he said, ‘to know you’ll be dead soon will help you make some big choices in life’. In my view, these choices need not even be big ones, that completely overturn your life, but small everyday acts that can lift your chin up, and give each day renewed purpose.
Here are some of my ideas on how to let the idea of death give you a new purpose…
