Happy New Year to one and all, and a wish that 2021 is kinder and gentler than the last year! I find myself breathing a sigh of relief that we seem to be headed in the right direction once again. Some may wonder how much more they can take—with celebrations postponed, families unable to visit one another, smiles hidden behind masks, worry and fear as Covid-19 continues to spread...Truly, how much longer must this go on? The answer, of course, is that it will go on for as long as it will go on. And while it already seems like an eternity, if we are lucky, and we keep it in perspective, it is only a small blip on the radar of life. So the question isn’t, “How much more can we take?” Instead, we might ask, “What shall we do with this moment in time and the situation as it presents itself?”
I believe we are strong in a way that we rarely give ourselves credit for. Many of our parents or grandparents survived the Spanish Flu and the Great Depression, not to mention a couple of world wars. Some of our ancestors survived famines and plagues and dust bowls or crossed the country in wagons pulled by horses! Others left everything they knew in a land besieged by dictators to find peace and liberty and love somewhere new. Perhaps in your own lovely and amazing life, you’ve had to overcome obstacles you never thought possible, and perhaps you are stronger for it.
