GREAT OCEAN ROAD

ROUTE: Torquay to Allansford, Victoria, Australia

Voted the world’s most scenic coastal drive, the journey across picturesque Victoria is packed with surfing hotspots and waterfalls. For the true Australian experience, follow signs to kangaroo and koala sanctuaries dotted along the way. There’s a diverse array of things to see and do in the region, from surfing, scuba diving and sea kayaking to arts, culture and history. Admire the stunning coastline on the Great Ocean Walk and enjoy fine dining and local wines along the way.

Must-stop pit stop: Despite there being only eight left, the name has stuck for The Twelve Apostles – a series of stunning limestone stacks off the shore of Port Campbell National Park that make a great sunsetstop.

THE GARDEN ROUTE

ROUTE: Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, South Africa

After exploring Robben Island and climbing Table Mountain in buzzing Cape Town, hit the road and head to the Outeniqua Mountains to marvel at the limestone caverns of the Cango caves, and get chased by a big bird at the ostrich farm in Oudsthoorn. Cruise through the stunning seaside town of Knysna, go black water tubing at the Tsitsikamma National Park, before finishing off your road trip in the Addo Elephant National Park, which is home to many of Africa’s big game.
