What’s On asks a few key figures within the UAE’s cultural sphere to name some of their favourite places
We heart the UAE

01. Celina Teague, visual artist

Favourite spot: Showcase Gallery

I came across Showcase Gallery when I was looking for frames for my artworks. Not only do Showcase produce quality frames on site but they have a great exhibition schedule featuring artists from all over the world. The gallery also has a focus on African art, which often brings a dose of colour.

02. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Minister of State UAE Government

Favourite spot: Gallery Fann A Porter at The Workshop

Whenever I am in Dubai looking for a retreat to drink a good espresso and admire art in a calm atmosphere, I turn to Gallery Fann A Porter located at The Workshop. An art gallery, a beautiful garden, a cafe with healthy food, a space for collaboration and creativity, and most importantly a place with knowledgable staff, The Workshop is a multi-concept space that has a lot to offer. It is truly one-of-a-kind.

03. Wol Balston, PR executive

Favourite spot: Coins of Islam: History Revealed

Whilst the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is closed, do make try and make a beeline to the Visitor Centre when it reopens. There you can catch an extraordinary exhibition titled ‘Coins of Islam: History Revealed’. It displays what can be considered one of the world’s most significant collections of Arab and Islamic coinage ever assembled and offers often surprising perspectives on history.
